Engineering for One Planet (EOP) strives to transform engineering education to equip all engineers with the skills, knowledge, and understanding they need to protect and improve our planet and our lives.
This spring, the EOP community celebrated sustainability in engineering on Earth Day and traveled to events around the country, including ESWcon25 and the ABET 2025 Symposium. We welcomed a new cohort of ASEE EOP awardees and announced new teaching and student career guides.

New ASEE EOP Mini-Grants Program Awardees
Congratulations to the 24 awardees of the ASEE EOP Mini-Grants Program!
The program offers teams of engineering educators funding and mentorship to pursue new ways to integrate social and environmental sustainability learning outcomes into their curricula.

You’re Invited: Contribute to the EOP Framework Revision
Co-created in 2020 and launched in 2022, the EOP Framework needs a fresh update — and we want to hear from you! Click on the survey link below to share your thoughts by August 31. And keep an eye out in 2026 for the updated Framework!
EOP is thrilled to announce its 4th companion teaching guide: “Engineering for One Planet Framework: 17 Sustainability-Focused Engineering Course Activities Co-Created by Teaching Faculty.” This guide is designed to aid faculty in making curricular changes to educate engineering students on fundamental, ABET-aligned sustainability and professional competencies. Thank you to the EOP Network’s Course Activities Committee and the faculty who contributed to the guide!

The EOP Network’s Student Support Pathways Committee has released its “Guide to Preparing For, Planning, and Creating Your Sustainability-Focused Career While You’re Still in College.” The guide helps students interested in pursuing sustainability-focused careers to: explore personal motivations and career options; get the skills needed for a sustainability career; and prepare for and embark upon a job search. It includes dozens of resources and features eight activities to help students through the career-planning process.

EOP brings together individuals from across the engineering system. This spring, we welcomed 40 new members, including: 20 faculty, eight academic leaders, and five students, with representatives from industry, professional organizations, a consulting practice, a national lab, an NGO, and a nonprofit. Our next round of recruitment will take place in Fall 2025.

Are you transforming curricula, engaging students in sustainability projects, or pioneering research that drives environmental and social progress through innovative engineering education? If so, the 2025 Quanser Global Sustainability Award is open for applications! Apply by June 27.

Villanova University recently published an evidence-based framework for expanding EOP across institutions. Regardless of where your institution stands, “Villanova University’s Guide to Institutionalizing the EOP Framework” can help achieve lasting change and chart a course toward a sustainable tomorrow.

Engineering Education for Sustainable Development Conference
EOP will join the global community of educators and academics at the Twelfth International Conference on EESD, hosted by King’s College London. Join Cindy Anderson’s (Alula Consulting) sessions and be inspired by EOP Network Member Michael Milligan’s (ABET) keynote and session about this year’s theme, “Engineers as Changemakers.”

The 2025 American Society for Engineering Education Annual Conference
The EOP community will be out in full force at the ASEE 2025 Annual Conference in Montreal, Canada. Meet EOP grantees, action network members, and staff in one place — and check out EOP’s booth and numerous presentations.
From the STEM Funders Network Bi-Annual Meeting to the ABET Symposium, EOP was at events across the country this spring for Earth Day and beyond. Read more for a recap of where we brought our message of sustainability in engineering.
