Through collaboration with higher education institutions, educators, students, and industry leaders, EOP is ensuring that technology and innovation contribute to a thriving planet and just society.

EOP is shaping a more sustainable future for engineering.

Faculty have implemented EOP teaching tools.

600+ courses have been redesigned with a sustainability focus, reaching 36,000+ students.

From Action Plan to Impact

EOP is a plan of action that began with a simple yet powerful question: How might engineering education prepare all future engineers, across all disciplines, to protect and improve our planet and our lives? Such curricular innovation is challenging. EOP supports a new approach to engineering education that delivers solutions. EOP and its growing community of higher ed institutions, educators, industry partners, and passionate professionals are driving changes and rapidly integrating sustainability into the core of engineering curricula.

A Framework for Change

The EOP Framework is a cornerstone of the initiative. Co-created with experts from industry, sustainability leaders, and academia, the EOP Framework has something for every engineering educator. Teaching tools, grants, and communities of practice all draw from the EOP Framework’s 93 adaptable learning outcomes, each of which is mapped to ABET accreditation requirements. Drawing from a common framework facilitates and accelerates changes across different programs, people, and institutions.

Hundreds of educators have used the EOP Framework and related teaching guides, training workshops, and communities of practice to develop new courses, revamp existing ones, and create hands-on projects that allow students to apply their knowledge to real-world situations.

Collaboration with Industry

Engineering companies and engineering education programs are interdependent. EOP fosters collaboration between academia and industry to close the green skills gap and address the growing demand for sustainably-equipped engineers. Companies benefit from hiring graduates who are not only technically proficient but also understand the environmental, economic, and social implications of their work.

EOP’s work has been instrumental in transforming our engineering program. They helped us integrate sustainability into every aspect of our curriculum, from first-year design courses to senior capstone projects. Our students are now graduating with the skills and mindset needed to tackle the challenges of the 21st century.
