Climate education is one of the most urgent gaps in engineering today. To help you meet this challenge without overloading your syllabi, check out EOP’s new teaching guide, “Engineering for One Planet Framework: Vetted Teaching Activities for a Thriving Future in a Changing Climate.” No matter your course, this guide makes it easy to integrate flexible, vetted activities to help your students engineer a better future.
Thank you to all of our collaborative partners and contributors to this guide!

In celebration of World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development on March 4, 2026, EOP and IFEES-GEDC collaborated to launch the new EOP climate teaching guide. Check out the webinar recording of Cindy Anderson, EOP Co-Founder and Strategy Consultant, to learn more about this and all EOP Resources.

Created by EOP Network Member and grantee Elisabeth Smela, the certificate from the University of Maryland seeks to help instructors in any discipline prepare their students to work toward achieving sustainability — because sustainability needs to be embedded in the whole curriculum and not treated as a stand-alone, siloed subject. The set of courses aims to balance knowledge and understanding of sustainability issues with tools for instructors to use in their classrooms and assignments to incorporate sustainability content or skills.

Don’t solve tomorrow’s challenges with yesterday’s curricula! You can now download the third edition of the EOP Framework and updated companion teaching guides, chock full of exercises and freely available links to materials that make integration as easy as possible. With contributions from more than 230 educators and sustainability experts, this suite of open-source tools will help you integrate sustainability content into your engineering courses, whatever the discipline.
Thank you to all the contributors who provided more than 400 comments in the update process!
It is imperative to ramp up the use of Engineering for One Planet to help create a more sustainable future. EOP has a new and exciting systemic change project to integrate EOP content into best selling textbooks and related learning materials. With just a few minutes, you can help grow the enthusiasm and commitments of educators to use EOP and better educate their students about sustainability. Some ways you can participate include:
– Describe what you like about EOP by sharing a quote or a short video,
– Share your positive EOP experience through attending or even presenting at a convening for authors of well-known textbooks.

EOP is accepting applications and nominations for Year 2 of the EOP Student Ambassador Program. Ambassadors use the EOP Framework to advocate for the integration of sustainability and climate change content in their engineering courses and programs. Ambassadors receive support through workshops, mentorship, Community of Practice-like peer groups, and more. Nominations are due April 24, 2026.

We’re excited to announce the third year of the ABET and The Lemelson Foundation Engineering for One Planet Innovation in Sustainability Award. This is your chance to tell the world how an individual, program, or institution is integrating sustainability into engineering education in innovative and large-scale ways. Nominations are due April 20, 2026.

Applications are open for the NSF-Lemelson Foundation EOP grants through the Research in the Formation of Engineers program. The collaboration seeks ideas for innovative curricular development or research related to EOP. Applicants are encouraged to submit proposals by April 30, 2026.

New: ABET’s Sustainability Microcredential Is Here
We’re excited to spotlight ABET’s new Sustainability Microcredential—a 25-hour, self-paced program that turns theory into engineering excellence. The program features nine specialized modules covering everything from science to impact assessment, a verified digital badge via Credly to signal your expertise to employers, and a flexible, 100% online format designed for students and working professionals.
We’re excited to share that the Engineering for Change (E4C) Fellowship Learning Program is anchored in the principles of the Engineering for One Planet Framework.
Learn more about how E4C leveraged the EOP Framework and principles in building their Fellowship Learning Program and share the program with a student or early professional looking to use their skills for impact.

We’re delighted to shine a light on The University of Twente’s CLEAR (Chemistry Learning for Environmental Action and Responsibility) initiative that took first prize at the Dutch Higher Education Award 2025 for an educational innovation that places sustainability at the heart of chemistry education. The CLEAR initiative was inspired by the EOP Framework, and integrates systems thinking and environmental responsibility throughout the Chemical Science and Engineering program, helping students connect chemical science to real societal and ecological challenges. The award includes €1.2 million to further develop and scale this sustainability-driven approach in higher education.

This initiative, designed for engaged faculty worldwide, provides the opportunity to get insights, share ideas and feedback, and exchange good practice with peers in academia and across industry on embedding sustainability in engineering education. Email [email protected] to get involved.
